Spirit of the Law Vs Letter of the Law

Although I don't agree with every part of the sermon I certainly agree with it's message. Often it is much more effective to find the purpose of a rule, law, or activity and work toward the intended purpose as opposed to following every small nuance of the rule, law or activity. Teachers that do not deviate from the initial lesson plan or traditional assessment styles for students who need help are doing teaching a dis-service. Teachers need to look at the intended purpose, which is student learning and development. Teachers need to find ways to achieve these goals. I feel that No Child Lft Behind does not allow for the spirit of the law theory to be followed. Because standardized testing is now controlling our schools teacher have to teach to the test to help both their students advance and help the schools maintain funding. The educator should be the assessor not a pre-written test given to every student in every school in the same way. Students are people, are individuals, they learn differently and at different paces.
